Position Description

The Director of Food Services is responsible for evaluating and implementing improvements to ensure meals are nutritious, well-balanced, and of high quality. This role requires a dynamic leader with proven experience in kitchen operations, food service management, and staff leadership. The ideal candidate will drive excellence in meal planning, food preparation, and team performance while maintaining compliance with health and safety standards. The Director of Food Services also aids in the development of the program work assignment structure in coordination with the Sr. Director of Vocational Services and other Program Team members. The Director of Food Services should have the heart of a servant in accordance with Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and organizational planning while overseeing operations for Food Services.
  • Oversee departmental initiatives in coordination with the Sr. VP of Operations.
  • Facilitate the understanding of vocational training guidelines with participants and staff in areas of Food Services.
  • Ensuring operations comply with all local, state, and federal health, sanitation, and safety regulations.
  • Communicate with outside partners (i.e. Community Harvest Food Bank, etc.) regarding donations of food and household supplies.
  • Facilitate and coordinate meals for special events and order food products and kitchen supplies as needed.
  • Provide coaching, training and oversight to employees as well as participants assigned to work in Food Services under The Rescue Mission vocational program.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Maintain department staff by collaborating with HR to recruit, select, orient and train employees; maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment and develop employee growth opportunities.
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and correcting employees; coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards.

Other Duties

  • Attend quarterly All Staff meetings.
  • Job performance should demonstrate The Rescue Mission’s Core Values; Organizational Integrity, Organizational Unity and Organizational Effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical and moral behavior, including boundaries with guests, volunteers and clients.
  • Be prepared to pray with and offer spiritual support to others.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Training and Experience

  • High School Degree
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience in related field, preferred.
  • Experience serving large numbers of people (3000), preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in the food services industry recommended..
  • 3-5 years of previous managerial experience required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of internet and email.
  • Ability to work with individuals of various socio-economic, ethnic, and racial populations.
  • Ability to comply with personal and business requirements and expectations as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
