National Homelessness Awareness Month

Who do you see?

This month as we raise awareness, we implore you to ponder: who do you see when you see an individual experiencing homelessness?

Often, we jump straight to the what or how (do you feel) and miss the who.

Those experiencing homelessness are our sons, daughters, moms, dads, uncles, aunts, veterans, grandparents, children. Their identity is first and most importantly about being human. They are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” YouVersion, Psalm 139:14

Their identity does not equal their housing status, income, success, or appearance.

In our community…

  • 500 individuals live in encampments every day according to estimates.
  • 80 people sleep in cars each night.
  • 80 families live night-to-night in a hotel room.
  • 1,300 kids in Fort Wayne Community Schools sleep on a couch due to unstable housing.

How can you help?

Act now. We have to start somewhere. We can’t sit, talk, and hope something changes without doing something.

Some of the best conversations happen in our local coffee shops. Visit our community partners, featuring Homelessness Awareness Month coffee sleeves. Let's have the conversations.

“Who do you see?” And, how can you help?
